Rexy In The City: Coach To Debut As First Luxury Fashion Brand In Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

On Thursday, November 28 at 9 a.m., the time-honored phrase “Let’s Have a Parade” will ring from the starting line as the march of fantasy takes to the streets of New York City during the 93rd Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade.  This year the event will bring together two iconic American brands with a shared New York legacy via a new float set to debut in the annual holiday spectacle.

Coach, a global design house of modern luxury leather goods, apparel, footwear, fragrance, eyewear and a full range of lifestyle accessories will be the first-ever luxury fashion house to participate in the historic Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Led by Coach’s mascot, the beloved dinosaur Rexy, the house’s glittering float will feature a carnival-style reimagining of New York City. Titled “Rexy in the City,” the float will boldly kick-off the holiday season with the house’s unique spirit of optimism, playfulness, and inclusivity.

In addition to Coach’s float debut in the 93rd Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the partnership will also include an exclusive Rexy-themed collection featuring leather goods, footwear, t-shirts and accessories, launching November 15 at select Macy’s stores nationwide and macys.com. Rexy has appeared in Coach collections and on the runway since 2015 when Coach creative director Stuart Vevers unleashed her to the world. Her glittering float in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will be her biggest, boldest appearance to date.

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is the nation’s biggest and most anticipated holiday celebration. Broadcast nationally on NBC, with millions of families nationwide tuning in to watch the excitement unfold, the TODAY Show’s Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb and Al Roker will host the three-hour broadcast from 9 a.m. – noon (in all time zones).

For spectators in New York or those traveling to the city to see it live, the 93rd Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade begins at 9 a.m., kicking off from 77th Street and Central Park West. The procession will march to Columbus Circle, turn onto Central Park South and then march down 6th Avenue/Avenue of the Americas. At 34th Street, the Parade will make its final turn west and end at 7th Avenue in front of Macy’s Herald Square.

It’s no secret that my sister and I are definitely in love with the Coach brand. It’s our go-to for New York Fashion Week,  Blogger Breakfast, Expos, and simple casual everyday living, and we are so excited that Coach has released a new campaign just in time for the holidays. Coach is a global design house of modern luxury leather goods, apparel, footwear, fragrance, eyewear and a full range of lifestyle accessories.

Today Coach unveiled the “Wonder For All,” 2019 holiday season campaign. The campaign celebrates inclusivity, optimism, and authenticity.  Set on the Upper West Side and featuring Shahidi, Moss, Megan Thee Stallion as well as model Fernanda Ly, actor Miles Heizer and an unexpected feathered friend, it sees the cast in joyful, unfiltered scenes that highlight the house’s spirit of playfulness and the authentic self-expression that defines New York City.

 

The campaign also introduces the house’s new Horse and Carriage collection. Seen on Kate Moss and a new version of the Kat Saddle Bag, the collection reimagines Coach’s iconic Horse and Carriage motif as a cool, colorful pattern on bags and ready-to-wear. First introduced in the 1950s, the Horse and Carriage is a symbol of Coach’s legacy of leathercraft and New York heritage, and the house’s first-ever code.

“Wonder For All” is also a series of short films written and directed by Bunny Kinney. Featuring Spike and Tonya Lee, actress Camila Morrone, winner of Season 8 of Ru Paul’s Drag Race Bob the Drag Queen, and writer, actor and producer Ben Sinclair, as well as special appearances by the Shahidi family and the Newark Boys Choir, the films celebrate the magic and spontaneous fun of being together during the most festive time of year.

So here are a few things you need to know about Cynthia Rowley Spring Summer 2020 New York Fashion Week debut that made this season’s presentation even more unforgettable than the last season.

By having her runway show outdoors, Cynthia Rowley turned Tribeca’s Staple Street into a fun-filled adventurous playland piquing the curiosity of guests and even surrounding onlookers.

The Spring Summer 2020 collection was also inspired by Dr. Seuss’ “Oh, the Places You’ll Go,” bringing the book took life on the runway evoking an adventurous beachy vibe, with a hint of bohemian flair, and 70s-inspired silhouettes. Whimsical Dr. Seuss inspired looks also made an appearance adding to the adventurous vibes.

Bibhu Mohapatra Spring-Summer 2020 New York Fashion Week Collection Debut Celebrates American Beauty 

“To know that in oneself, waiting to be found, there is a light. What the light reveals is danger, and what it demands is faith.”  Inspired by Richard Avedon and James Baldwin’s book, “Nothing Personal,” designer Bibhu Mohapatra created his Spring-Summer 2020 collection.

However,  I should mention that “Nothing Personal” was not just a book, or any ordinary project, but a major collaboration that began in 1963 during a time of civil crisis by former high school friends.   The collaboration between author James Baldwin and photographer Richard Avedon explored the individuality and identity of Americans.  Bibhu Mohapatra Spring Summer 2020 collection celebrates the American beauty and its diverse identity of strength, courage, and originality.

Bibhu Mohapatra Spring-Summer 2020 collection was revealed during a runway presentation during New York Fashion Week at Spring Studios. The cast of models for his New York Fashion Week presentation further reinforced his commit to diversity, strength, courage, and originality.  Sheer fabrics, tulles, and lace emerged out of the darkness revealing light, transparency, and a sense of freedom.  While the vibrant colors of the collection revealed courage, strength, and the need for individuality without compromise. The juxtapose of the opposing elements in the collection is what makes this season’s collection probably one of my favorites.  You could be whoever you want to be at any time of the day without compromising style, grace, and glamour, and still be sexy, beautiful, and powerful.

Tmall Opened NYFW: The Shows with a Lineup Showcasing China’s Design Talent

Tmall, China’s premier B2C platform for brands and retailers, in partnership with New York Fashion Week (NYFW): The Shows, provided a prominent platform for Chinese designers to showcase their collections at Spring Studios in New York City yesterday as part of “Tmall China Cool during New York Fashion Week.  The “Tmall China Cool” showcase took place on Wednesday, September 4th, the first day of NYFW: The Shows, featuring a slate of Chinese designers including Peacebird, THREEGUN, RiZhuo as well as emerging designers SONGTA and i-am-chen.

Peacebird returned to NYFW with a men’s and women’s collection that was young, hip and vibrant. While THREEGUN incorporated science and technology with fashion and presented a collection inspired by the union between classic silhouettes and modern fabrics providing a futuristic vibe to the collection.

Both SONGTA and i-am-chen, two young, emerging designers, presented a collective runway show. Song Ta conceived each piece of its collection as artwork,  while Zhi Chen, the founder of i-am-chen, was inspired by photographer Kourtney Roy.  Contemporary women’s wear label, RiZhuo, designed by Zhang Lujian, portrayed the brand’s peaceful values towards life through simple and meticulous craftsmanship and loose, structured shapes.

Last September, Tmall hosted a pop-up market within Opening Ceremony’s New York store to showcase popular Chinese brands that are riding the “China Cool” trend, ranging from the traditional medicine maker Yunnan Baiyao to the revived century-old beauty brand Shanghai Vive.  This September, Tmall will host a pop-up exhibition featuring cross-over collaborations that are riding the “China Cool” trend. Featured brand collaborations will include Chinese confectionary company, Hsu Fu Chi and clothing brand Tyakasha, Chinese snack brand Qinqin and fashion brand Mukzin, Dove Chocolate and Hefang jewelry, and home furniture brand Ziinlife and Chow Tai Seng jewelry.
